The URI Invitational is our annual flagship programme, bringing together writers, artists, historians, educators, students and public leaders for conversations, performances, exhibitions and learning experiences across Robben Island and its partner institutions.

In 2024, the Invitational was selected by UNESCO as one of the world’s World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) Initiative projects, recognising its innovative approach to public heritage education. Following successful development in 2024–2026, the inaugural URI Invitational will be presented as an international gathering celebrating Robben Island’s enduring educational legacy.
